Lionsgate is courting Simon Beaufoy to pen the follow-up to next year's movie, according to Deadline.
The film will be based on Catching Fire, the second book in Suzanne Collins' series.
The Hunger Games' all-star cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Wes Bentley, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz.
The script for the first instalment was written by director Gary Ross alongside Collins.
The post-production schedule prevents Ross from working on the follow-up screenplay, but he is still in line to direct the sequel.
Beaufoy is also known for his work on the scripts for 127 Hours and The Full Monty.
