The Avengers actress will head the adaptation of Truman Capote's novella, reports Variety.
The long-lost book by the Breakfast at Tiffany's author tells the tale of an 18-year-old girl living in post-World War II New York who breaks free from the confines of her respectable family in order to discover her own identity and sexuality.
Summer Crossing was written in the 1940s. Unsatisfied with his work, Capote claimed to have destroyed the manuscript.
The novella was discovered over 50 years later and published in 2005.
Oscar-winning Deer Hunter producer Barry Spikings is attached to the movie. Screenwriter and playwright Tristine Skyler is adapting the screenplay.
Johansson will next be appearing in We Bought a Zoo, Under the Skin and The Avengers.
