The Captain America actor has signed a deal to play Franco's former role as the mentor to a contract killer for the mob named Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon), reports Deadline.
Last month, Franco reportedly pulled out from the movie due to a disagreement over "key contractual issues".
The Iceman, based on an Anthony Bruno book titled The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer, is directed by Ariel Vromen.
The upcoming film also features Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ray Liotta, and David Schwimmer.
Fans may have to wait for a while to see Evans reprise his Captain America role. Evans revealed that a sequel for Captain America: The First Avenger may be released in 2014.
The actor can be seen in the recent Anna Faris comedy What's Your Number?.
