The Happy Feet Two director told Digital Spy than an earlier Mel Gibson-led version of the project would have utilised old-fashioned 3D technology.

"There were only certain section we were going to do back in 2001 in 3D. When you see Max having to put on his goggles, that's when you were meant to get your goggles and put them on. When they fall off, you take them off."
The sequel, now titled Mad Max: Fury Road, will star Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky and go into production in Namibia in early 2012.
Miller said: "[For] this one we built special 3D cameras. I wanted small, very flexible cameras... I want it to be very compact."
