Last month, the director confirmed he is interested in casting the Oscar-winning actor in Star Trek 2.
It was reported shortly after by Latino Review that del Toro would be playing the legendary villain Khan, a role that was made famous by Ricardo Montalban in the original television series and the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
However, Abrams denied the claims, declaring the report to be false.
"Not true," he told Hit Fix of the news.
Del Toro was first linked to the sequel in early November as a potential villain.
Star Trek 2 is slated to be released on May 17, 2013.
