Christopher Nolan 'emotional over Batman end'

Christopher Nolan has said that he got emotional during the final days of shooting The Dark Knight Rises.

The director confessed that he is sad that he has reached the end of his time working on the Batman films, adding that he even got a little teary-eyed on the final days of shooting.

"I tend not to be too emotional on the set, I find that doesn't help me do my job," Nolan told the Los Angeles Times. "But you definitely get a little lump in your throat thinking that, 'Okay, this is going to be the last time we're going to be doing this.' It's been quite a journey."

He went on to speak about the decision to make Bane the film's central villain.

"I only knew him by name, I wasn't familiar with his back story," Nolan said of the character - played by Tom Hardy. "He's a very cool character. And getting an actor like Tom to take it on, you know you're going to get something very special."

Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale previously revealed that he will never return to the Batman franchise, saying that his third Batman film will also be his last.

Warner Bros recently confirmed that an extra in The Dark Knight Rises died on set last month, revealing that the man suffered a heart attack during rehearsals in November.

The Dark Knight Rises will open in cinemas on July 20, 2012.
