The Blind Side star revealed that motherhood helped her prepare for her role in the 9/11 drama, which also stars Tom Hanks.
"I've always been very maternal. I've always loved being around kids," Bullock told E! Online. "I'm sure Louis influenced me in ways I don't even know how. Everything becomes richer or more important or more frightening or more challenging."
The actress went on to say that she got very close to Thomas Horne, the actor who played her son in the film, adding: "I love him so much."
Bullock recently revealed that she had planned to take a longer break from acting before coming across the Stephen Daldry movie.
In October, the actress's 1-year-old son received an Andy Warhol 'Peaches' painting as a gift.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close will receive a limited release on Christmas Day, followed by a general release in the US on January 20, 2012.
It will open in UK cinemas on February 3, 2012.
