Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) was previously attached to the part.
Skins actress Scodelario will take on the role of a 17-year-old girl who becomes obsessed with a new neighbour who looks like her dead mother, reports Variety.
Her fascination is increased when she is asked to babysit the woman's lifelike doll for an evening.
Writer/director Francesca Gregorini (Tanner Hall) is helming the project.
Scodelario has previously appeared on the big screen in Clash of the Titans, Wuthering Heights and Moon.
