Reese Witherspoon to play murder victim's mother in 'Devil's Knot'

Devil's Knot is based on the true events of a 1993 murder of three boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. Teenagers Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were accused of the murders and were released from prison in August after 18 years.
Witherspoon will play Pam Hobbs, a mother of one of the victims, reports Variety. Pam believed that the three teenagers killed her son, but began to change her mind after more details were disclosed.
Penned by Scott Derrickson and Paul Boardman, production for the drama apparently will begin in the summer.
Last month, the Water for Elephants actress promised not to carry python-skin handbags after she received complaints from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Witherspoon can be seen next opposite Chris Pine and Tom Hardy in the action comedy This Means War, to be released in February 2012.
