Bullock plays the mother of ten-year-old Oskar Schell (Horn) who loses his dad (Tom Hanks) after the terrorist attack in New York on September 11, 2011. After he receives a key to a lock box left by his father, Schell goes on a quest to find that lock box in the city.
Horn praised Bullock for her efforts to make him feel comfortable on the film set, and Bullock also complimented her young co-star.
She told Access Hollywood: "It was like going through a mini emotional war together. I couldn't have asked for a better partner. You don't often get great partners and I was blessed with him - so blessed."
The Oscar-winning actress recently revealed that she had planned to take a longer break from acting, but could not turn down the role in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Bullock also shared that motherhood helped her prepare for her role in the movie.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close will be released to limited theaters on December 25, followed by a general release in the US on January 20 and in the UK on February 3.
