Hollywood studio Universal Pictures has revealed details regarding the comic book-based sequel Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.
After some uncertainty as to whether the film would be made at all, the project is now on firmer ground.
Company chairman Marc Shmuger said in a statement: "All of us at Universal are delighted to be part of the continuing adventures of Hellboy and his universe, as there are few properties which offer this unique blend of action, humour and character- based spectacle."
The follow-up will be be written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, who helmed the first film. Encorporating a host of new and returning characters, it will explore more of the world shown in the first Hellboy movie.
Filming is due to start next April with the aim of a summer 2008 release.
