The James Bond star revealed that he did not want the journalist Mikael Blomkvist to be mistaken for the spy.
"I wanted to look as much like a normal guy as possible," Craig told Matt Lauer on the Today show. "This guy is a journalist and he works very hard and maybe drinks a little too much, but when the thriller aspect of this movie kicks in, I wanted him to be in danger."
The actor went on to insist that the film is not for kids.
"I'm hoping babysitters are going to make a lot of money out of this movie," the 43-year-old said.
Earlier this month, Craig was reportedly offered a multi-million pound deal to star in five more James Bond movies, making him the longest-serving actor to play the spy.
James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson has revealed that latest instalment Skyfall will have a "magical 1960s feel".
