Martin Freeman has said that he is not fearful of taking on the role of Bilbo Baggins.

The Office actor, who will play the lead role in Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit, believes the new franchise belongs more to director Peter Jackson.

"I honestly don't feel that pressure, no. I really, really don't," he told Total Film. "It is Bilbo's journey, but I didn't write it. I'm not directing it. It's not my film, It's Peter's film."

On filming the first movie in New Zealand, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the star commented: "The hardest thing is staying up and peppy when you're covered in snot or mud, day after day. I'm sure there's more to come.

"So far, what we've filmed has been more comic than heavy. I keep asking Peter, 'When are we going heavy?' He assures me it's coming."

With An Unexpected Journey hitting theatres on December 14, 2012, the movie - which also stars Freeman's Sherlock co-star Benedict Cumberbatch - last week launched its one-year countdown to release.
