The We Bought a Zoo star, who revealed in October that he hopes to do another Bourne movie, insisted that if the The Bourne Legacy does not perform well, it will not affect the success of any future films in the series.
"I think if [Bourne Legacy] doesn't work, we can just ignore it and pretend it didn't happen, and that'd be fine," Damon told KCRW's The Business. "But I expect that it will work and only help us if we did another one, which I'd love to do."
The Bourne Legacy will feature Jeremy Renner in the lead role. Damon was initially expected to star in the film, but his character was reportedly written out of the movie.
Damon went on to explain his recent comments about director Tony Gilroy. The actor blamed the troubled production of 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum on a "terrible" rough script submitted by Gilroy under a big-money deal.
"It was idiotic of me to say anything," he admitted. "At the end of the day, it's between me and Tony, and we'll figure it out or we won't."
