Bridesmaids received a nod in the 'Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy)' category, but producer Apatow said he didn't want the news to distract from a special day in his daughter's life.
"[It was] my daughter Maude's 14th birthday, so I didn't tell anyone in my family about the nomination. I didn't want to distract from our morning festivities," he told People. "I thought it would be rude to make it all about me."
Apatow added that he's proud Bridesmaids has been so well-received because he struggled for "half a decade" to get the film made.
"The nomination is completely unexpected. It's very fun," he said.
Bridesmaids star Chris O'Dowd recently admitted that he's unsure if a sequel will ever be produced.
