Zooey Deschanel has signed up for the leading role in the latest Janis Joplin biopic, Production Weekly reports.
The Failure to Launch actress will play the legendary singer in the independent produced film, provisionally entitled Gospel According to Janis.
Helmed by Penelope Spheeris, the project has struggled until now to find a suitable actress for the part, and a host of names have previously been attached to it.
Filming is scheduled to start in November, although Deschanel has a series of projects due to be released in the meantime and, according to IMDb, is also attached to play Liza Minelli in Simply Halston.
