Angelina Jolie has revealed that her partner Brad Pitt played a key role in helping her develop her directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey.

Jolie said that it was Pitt who encouraged her to go forward with the Bosnian War film after reading a first draft of her screenplay.

"He was the first person to read the script and probably if he had said something negative, we wouldn't be here today," she joked, according to Santa Monica Mirror.

"I showed it to him as this kind of private experiment. He took it with him to Japan and called me and said, 'It's really not that bad - it's really pretty good'."

She added of Pitt's contribution to In the Land of Blood and Honey: "We talked further about it and he encouraged me throughout the whole process. He came to the set most days and did some still photography. He was always around and always supportive."

Jolie previously commented that she considers the cast and crew of In the Land of Blood and Honey to be like family.

In the Land of Blood and Honey is currently playing in limited release in the US. No UK opening has been announced.
