Jolie recently told reporters that she never considered starring in In the Land of Blood and Honey because she felt that Bosnian actors were far more qualified for the real-life war story.
"As an American actor, I don't have the depth of emotion and understanding and the commitment to art and the ability that people have from this region of the world," Jolie commented, according to Cinema Blend.
She further praised the film's cast by saying: "They're well beyond me when it comes to being an artist."
Jolie recently professed that In the Land of Blood and Honey's cast and crew became like family during the movie's production.
The filmmaker has also singled out her partner Brad Pitt for encouraging her to embark on her directorial debut.
The Golden Globe-nominated film In the Land of Blood and Honey is now playing in limited release in US cinemas.
