Newman - whose recent soundtrack work includes The Help and The Adjustment Bureau - is said to have agreed a deal to produce the score for the 23rd James Bond movie, according to Bond fansite MI6 HQ.
Director Sam Mendes has worked with Newman in the past, most notably on the award-winning American Beauty, Road to Perdition and Jarhead.
David Arnold has provided the score for the five previous James Bond titles.
Newman has been nominated for ten Academy Awards and a Golden Globe, and has won a BAFTA, two Grammys and an Emmy.
Skyfall is due to hit cinemas on October 26, 2012.
