'Akira' put on hold over budget concerns

Warner Bros has apparently put its live action Akira project on hold.
The movie's production offices have been closed in the face of concerns over the casting, script and budget.
"Everybody is being sent home," an insider told The Hollywood Reporter.

The producers will be sitting down with director Jaume Collet-Serra over the next two weeks to iron out the script. If they cannot solve its issues the project is likely to be shelved.
Collet-Serra has halved the budget from the point when Albert Hughes was attached to direct.
It is now around $90 million (£58 million). The goal is to reduce this to between $60 and $70 million (£39 and £45 million).
The project was greenlit in October with Garrett Hedlund signed to star and actors including Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter in talks to appear in the film.
The live-action Akira has been through various incarnations in recent years.
"It's a very resilient movie," said an insider. "Warner Bros just won't let it die."
