Steven Spielberg has declared War Horse to be his first truly British movie.
Speaking at the film's UK press conference, the Oscar-winning director revealed that he had originally viewed his 1987 adaptation of J. G. Ballard's Empire of the Sun to be his only "British film".
Additional reporting by Simon Reynolds.
"This could have only been shot in England. This is a British film; this is the most British film I've ever made," Spielberg said
"I once thought Empire of the Sun was a British film. But I think I disqualified that after I heard the reaction last night at the Odeon at Leicester Square.
"[Then I] realised I'd made my first British film with War Horse - through and through."
Starring Emily Watson and David Thewlis,War Horse opens in UK cinemas on January 13.
