The 30 Rock actress, who plays Effie Trinket in the film, described the movie as "timely", revealing that she hopes the forthcoming film will teach kids about the impact a single person can make.
"The Hunger Games is so timely because it's about the overthrow of a totalitarian society and I'm pretty sure that's what's happening worldwide right now," Banks told The Huffington Post.
"To me the message of The Hunger Games is that revolution can come from one person, an act of kindness by one person," she continued.
"I think it's really important to tell kids that they matter, that individuals matter, and that everyone counts, and that to me is the message of The Hunger Games. That's what I hope kids take away from it."
The actress went on to say that she had a lot of fun getting into character.
"A fun part of being an actor and a chameleon is taking on those looks," Banks said. "Effie has a really theatrical, over-the-top, completely not me look to her.
"I'm very excited for people to see my portrayal. I have no idea if people are going to be into it. I hope they are. I know the filmmakers are and [the book's author] Suzanne Collins blessed everything we did.
"It was a really fun collaboration between myself and Academy Award-nominated hair and make-up and costume people."
Banks recently revealed that Effie was inspired by Auntie Mame, adding that she did not want the character to sound too British.
The actress previously claimed that she is perfectly suited to the role of Effie, saying that she felt a certain kinship with the character.
The Hunger Games will open on March 23, 2012.
