Sony Pictures Animation is working on an adaptation of children's book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
The project has been underway for a while, but the official announcement that Sony had acquired the film rights came yesterday at the company's roadshow at its studio in Culver City, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Inspired by Judi and Ron Barrett's illustrated book, the film will focus on a scientist who sets out to end world hunger, only to find that food begins to rain down from the sky.
Sony Pictures Digital president Yair Landau said of the venture: "This is a project that we put into development right after we formed the company. It's one of my favourite books. It's something we chased right away."
