The King Kong director is high in the running to helm the as-yet-untitled collaboration between the two martial arts stars, an "anonymous insider" told Beijing's Star Daily newspaper.
Rotten Tomatoes also reports that the film will be based on the Chinese story Journey to the West, in which a modern day martial artist travels back in time and meets the Monkey King.
