Cameron spoke out earlier today ahead of a visit to Pinewood Studios, saying that more national lottery funds should be assigned to "commercially successful pictures".
The Anuvahood actor - who is nominated for the BAFTA 'Rising Star Award' - agreed that British companies need to make "bigger budget films", as there is "a lot of crap" that gets made.
Additional reporting by Tom Mansell.
He added: "I hope that David Cameron puts his money where his mouth is and invests money into it.
"We have so much talent here, but it's so hard to do anything without the funding."
