Jennifer Hudson has corrected her earlier statement about turning down a role in Precious.

The singer and actress claimed in her book, I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down, that she decided against taking on the part of Claireece 'Precious' Jones in the film because she was asked to gain weight.

"I had done that with Effie [in Dreamgirls]... and as much as I was moved by this film. I wanted to try a role that had nothing whatsoever to do with my weight," she said.

However, Hudson has since denied that weight was behind her decision, insisting instead that it had more to do with the film's content.

"I did NOT turn down the role because of the weight thing... I turned it down because I felt it was just too graphic for me at that time," Hudson told TMZ.

Hudson recently opened her own weight loss centre called The Weight Watchers Jennifer Hudson Centre in her hometown of Chicago.
