The Contraband star, who has also produced a number of titles, said that he often has to remind himself not to overstep his bounds when acting, but said that he aims to helm his own project someday.
"I've definitely been thinking about it a lot. I don't want to cross the line, either, because I see myself saying, 'Hey, no, what about this? That's not going to work'," he explained to MTV News.
"I would do that with the script, and there are scenes that you know just aren't going to make it into the movie, so it's like, 'Why are we shooting this?' I've got to remind myself to allow the director to direct."
Asked what type of film he would like to direct, he answered: "There was a time when I was thinking about directing Fighter. But I think I want to do something that's a little more on the comedic side."
Earlier this month, Wahlberg said that he hopes to begin shooting The Fighter 2 in the next year.
Wahlberg recently confessed that the script for Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes "wasn't good" and paled in comparison to 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
