Michael Fassbender has said that an X-Men: First Class sequel is likely.

The Shame star joked that he is being forced to return for a follow-up to the superhero prequel.

"I have no choice," Fassbender told SuperHeroHype. "They contracted me for two options."

"I gotta get down with it," he joked, before adding in seriousness: "We're at the ground level, but yeah I think there's going to be another one."

Fassbender previously said that he is "giddy" at the prospect of an X-Men: First Class sequel, suggesting that he would like the film to focus on the story of how James McAvoy's Professor Charles Xavier becomes Professor X.

A sequel to the film is currently being penned by Simon Kinberg, who wrote X-Men: The Last Stand.
