Ricky Gervais mocks Kim Kardashian, Eddie Murphy at 2012 Golden Globes - video

By
Ricky Gervais kicked off the 2012 Golden Globe Awards.

The British host took the stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California, picking up right where he left off last year.

"So where was I?" Gervais asked, sipping his drink as he surveyed the crowd. "Nervous? Don't be, this isn't about you."

The comedian started the evening by mocking NBC for its recent low ratings, before comparing the Golden Globes to the Oscars.

"The Golden Globes are just like the Oscars, but without all that esteem," Gervais said. "The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton."

He continued by making fun of Eddie Murphy for resigning his position as host of the 2012 Academy Awards.

"Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler between them played all the parts in The Help," he said. "I can't believe they're not here. Or maybe they are. They're masters of disguise."

Gervais then revealed that the Golden Globes had given him a list of rules for the hosting gig this year.

"This is real," he insisted before going on to read the rules in question. "No profanity... No nudity... I mustn't mention Mel Gibson this year... Especially not Jodie Foster's Beaver.

"I haven't seen it myself," he continued. "That doesn't mean it's not any good."

Foster took the joke in her stride, assuring Gervais that her "beaver" is great with a hand gesture.

Gervais then turned to Kardashian once again, poking fun at her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries.

"I've sat through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches," he told the audience.

Finally, Gervais took a swipe at Justin Bieber, insisting that there was no way he could have fathered a child.

"The only way he could have impregnated a girl was if he borrowed one of Martha Stewart's turkey basters," he said.
