The Pacific Rim actor will return to the role of the Norse god Heimdall in the follow-up to the 2011 Marvel Comics adaptation.
"Thor 2 for sure," Elba told MTV News. "We're going at it again."
He said that he was yet to meet with the sequel's recently-announced director Alan Taylor.
Elba confirmed that he so far has had no involvement with Joss Whedon's Avengers movie, which features Thor stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.
Jaimie Alexander recently revealed that she has had preliminary talks about reprising the role of Sif in Thor 2.
Idris's casting in Thor sparked anger among white supremacists, who called for a boycott of the movie.
The actor received a Golden Globe on the weekend for 'Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television' for his role in Luther.
Thor 2 is scheduled for release on November 15, 2013.
