Gordon and actor Jason Bateman will reteam for the comedy, having previously worked together on last year's Horrible Bosses.
The ID Theft sees Bateman's character become the victim of identity fraud at the hands of co-star Melissa McCarthy. Her character was originally written for a male actor, but the role was rescripted when she boarded the project.
Bateman, who is also producing, is said to have been impressed by McCarthy's performance in the hit comedy Bridesmaids, and had the script reworked to accommodate her inclusion.
The Pursuit of Happyness screenwriter Steve Conrad penned the original script with rewrites by Craig Mazin, who wrote The Hangover Part II, Deadline reports.
The ID Theft is scheduled to being shooting in April.
