McHale said: "I'm deeply excited to co-host the WGA Awards with Zooey Deschanel. She has that rare combination in that she's beautiful, funny, and smells good.
"Without writers, movies and TV would be worse than untreated syphilis, so I'm thrilled to hand these fine people awards for their great work."
The WGA recognizes writers in movies, television, news media, gaming, radio and promotional writing and graphic animations.
This year's nominees in the 'Original Screenplay' category are Will Reiser for 50/50, Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig for Bridesmaids, Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris, Tom McCarthy for Win Win and Diablo Cody for Young Adult.
