The French Academy of Cinematic Arts and Techniques announced on Friday (January 17) that it will pay tribute to Winslet's life and acting career by giving her its equivalent of the Academy Award.
Last year's honorary César went to Kill Bill director Quentin Tarantino and has also previously been given to Meryl Streep, Spike Lee, Jean-Luc Godard and Ingrid Bergman.
Winslet has been the recipient of many prestigious acting honors in the past, including three Golden Globes and an Academy Award.
The 37th Cesar Awards are to be held on February 24 in Paris.
Winslet's latest film Carnage is now playing in limited release in the US and opens on February 3 in the UK.
