Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard have been spotted on the freezing cold set of writer and director James Gray's untitled new project in New York.
Phoenix, who has worked with Gray on a number of films including 2008's Two Lovers co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow, plays brutish Bruno Weis, who tricks vulnerable immigrants - including French Oscar-winning actress Cotillard - into a life of burlesque and prostitution in the period drama.
The movie also features The Hurt Locker's Jeremy Renner, playing Orlando the magician, who attempts to save Cotillard's character Sonya Cybulski and reunite her with her captive sister.
