He is in talks to tackle the original screenplay from novelist Cormac McCarthy, according to Deadline.
The drama centres on a respected lawyer who becomes entangled in the drugs trade.
McCarthy's previous novels No Country For Old Men, The Road and All the Pretty Horses have all been adapted for the big screen.
It is looking likely that Scott will tackle The Counselor as his next project following Prometheus.
He has been connected to various movies including a Gertrude Bell biopic, Child 44 and a sequel to his classic film Blade Runner.
Prometheus will be released on June 1 in the UK and June 8 in the US.
