Focus Features and Participant Media have won a bidding battle for the film, reports Deadline.

Damon and Krasinski wrote the script together from an idea formed between Krasinski and author/screenwriter Dave Eggers (Away We Go, Where the Wild Things Are), the latter of whom wrote an earlier draft.

The pair will star as high-flying executives, with Damon finding his life turned around after his arrival in a small town.

Damon most recently leant his voice to Happy Feet Two. Krasinski is best known for starring in the US remake of The Office.

Van Sant directed Restless last year.
