Bridget Jones's Baby, which was due to reunite Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, had been scheduled to go into production in the next few weeks with The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo at the helm.
However, the comedy has been put on hold with sources close to the production telling The Hollywood Reporter that Grant had voiced his displeasure over David Nicholls and Helen Fielding's script.
The story sees Bridget, now in her 40s, trying to have a baby with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth).
One source claimed that the sequel is "basically dead", while another said that "the movie will definitely shoot sometime this year".

"We are still working on the script, hence the delay to the start of production, but the film is going ahead as planned."
Bridget Jones's Baby previously suffered delays when Bridesmaids director Paul Feig left the movie last October.
Universal and Working Title brought Cattaneo onto the film hoping he would inject a "British sensibility".
Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) and sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) took in more than $500 million (£315 million) at the worldwide box office.
