An adaptation of Anne Rice's The Tale of the Body Thief is in development.

Star Trek and Transformers writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are attached to produce the film, which has been optioned by Imagine Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will see the return of Rice's most famous creation, the vampire Lestat.

The Tale of the Body Thief sees the centuries old character make a deal to temporarily trade his immortal body for a human one with a mysterious, body-swapping being.

He soon discovers the creature has no intention of returning his original body.

Rice's 'Vampire Chronicles' were previously adapted to the big screen in 1994's Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt-starring Interview with the Vampire.

The 2002 follow-up Queen of the Damned featured the last acting appearance of Aaliyah.

The Tale of the Body Thief is in development and not yet attached to a studio.
