Ryan Reynolds has described Safe House as a "great character piece".
The actor plays a man in charge of preventing the escape/kidnapping of a rogue CIA agent (Denzel Washington) from the safe house where he works in the new dramatic thriller.

Talking to MTV News, Reynolds praised Washington and Safe House director Daniel Espinosa for allowing him to fully explore his character's depth, as well as his relationships with others.
"It's such a great character piece. You have two characters that are obviously diametrically opposed but they're sort of marching toward one another as opposed to away from one another. My character is an idealist, [Washington's] is basically a sociopath," he explained.
"They're taking slow, steady steps toward each other, and by the end they're kind of integrating. [Then], factor in Denzel Washington, who is one of the greatest living actors today, and [director] Daniel Espinosa, who is a young guy with a fresh take on the genre."
Washington recently said that he finds it more fun to play villains than good guys in films.
Safe House is released on February 10 in the US and February 24 in the UK.
