The Oscar-nominated star, who recently revealed that he is not a big fan of the Superman comic books, insisted that Cavill brings an "edge" to the role of the Kryptonian superhero.
"Henry is a fantastic Superman, he's got a little edge to him and he's smart, clever and I had fun working with him," Shannon told The Playlist.
The actor went on to say that the film itself will have a vibe akin to director Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.
"[The] whole thing is edgy in a way like when Nolan took over the Batman franchise," Shannon added.
Shannon, who will play General Zod in Man of Steel, previously admitted that he was nervous to take on the iconic role.
