DreamWorks has plans to remake a movie version of Rebecca.
Steven Knight has signed on to adapt Daphne du Maurier's 1938 novel, reports Variety.
The book was famously brought to the big screen by Alfred Hitchcock in his 1940 film.
It tells the story of an unnamed narrator who marries the wealthy Maximilian de Winter.
Moving to his West Country estate Manderley, she is confronted by the vicious housekeeper Mrs Danvers and the mystery of her new husband's first, late wife Rebecca.
Hitchcock's movie starred Joan Fontaine as the central heroine and Laurence Olivier as de Winter.
Knight is best known for his work on the screenplays for Dirty Pretty Things and Eastern Promises.
His new movie Hummingbird is currently in pre-production. Knight is directing and writing the script for the thriller, which stars Jason Statham as an ex-special forces soldier operating in London's criminal underworld.
