Bob Hoskins has blamed studio executives for causing a degeneration in the quality of film-making.
The veteran actor criticised the current system under which changes are made to scripts in an obvious attempt to make money by appealing to a mass audience rather than stay true to the creative process.
He told The Times: “Films are being made as though they were written by computer. They think, ‘What has sold before? Films with this? Films with that?’"
The Hollywoodland star added: "They think that if they have those elements, they have a winner. There is no desire to create. They have nothing to do with the film industry. I don’t think that they are interested in that way.”
Talking about his experience with individuals working in the British film industry, he remarked: “I listen to them and think,‘Oh dear, this is what the industry has come to’.”
