Saoirse Ronan has signed on to star in Disney's Order of Seven as Snow White.

The film was originally called Snow and the Seven, conceived as a kung fu version of Snow White. It has since been reimagined as an action adventure film with no ties to the classic fairy tale.

The reworking of the premise comes in the light of two upcoming movies based on Snow White - Snow White and the Huntsmen, starring Kristen Stewart, and Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror, which Ronan was in talks to star in early last year. The role eventually went to newcomer Lily Collins.

According to Variety, Ronan will play Olivia Sinclair, a British girl living in Hong Kong during the 19th century. She will seek protection from an ancient order of warriors, now criminals and outlaws.

Well-known international stars from China, Russia, and Japan will be tapped to play the seven warriors who help Ronan's character defeat an evil empress.

Michael Gracey, known for his work in the visual effects industry, will be making his directorial debut on the film.

Filming on Order of Seven begins this fall.
