Cabin Fever: Patient Zero is to appoint Kaare Andrews as director.
The comic book artist-turned-director is in final talks to helm the horror film, which will serve as a prequel to Eli Roth's original.
Cabin Fever: Patient Zero is based on a screenplay by The Hitcher scribe Jake Wade Wall. The story sees the flesh-eating virus from the first film break out on a cruise ship, plunging the entire crew into jeopardy.
Cabin Fever producer Evan Astrowsky and his Hypotenuse Pictures will oversee the project's development with Indomina Group. Production is scheduled to begin soon in the Dominican Republic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A second prequel titled Cabin Fever: Outbreak, written by Adam and Deborah Marcus, will be filmed back-to-back with the movie.
Andrews has illustrated several high-profile projects for Marvel Comics, including Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk. He made his directorial debut with Altitude in 2010.
