Marc Guggenheim has entered talks to script Robert Downey Jr's Perry Mason reboot.

The acclaimed writer, who has worked for both Marvel Comics and DC Comics, will pen a screenplay based on an original story by Downey and David Gambino.

Downey is on hand to star in the project and serve as its producer. The story is expected to take place in Los Angeles of the 1930s, and the film will be distributed by Warner Bros, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Guggenheim's previous screenwriting credits include the Green Lantern movie, and the pilot episode of The CW's Arrow, a television adaptation inspired by DC's Green Arrow.

Perry Mason is a fictitious attorney created by novelist Erle Stanley Gardner in the 1930s. The character has since appeared in countless books, as well as popular TV shows, films and radio dramas.

Downey will next be seen reprising his role as Tony Stark in The Avengers, scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 27 in the UK and on May 4 in the US.
