The biggest date in Hollywood's calendar, the Academy Awards is now in its 84th year having started life as a small, private brunch at the Roosevelt Hotel in 1929.

Now, thousands of the movie industry's finest pack into the Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard to see who will take home an iconic golden Oscar statuette.
