'Perfume' due out after 20-year wait

The movie version of best-seller Perfume is eventually due out after a 20-year battle over rights.
Producers have been chasing Patrick Sueskind's book, one of Germany's most successful publications ever, since it was published in 1985. Sueskind refused to give up the rights, and it was rumoured he was waiting for directing legend Stanley Kubrick.
However, Kubrick died in 1999, and in 2000 Sueskind eventually allowed friend and acclaimed producer Bernd Eichinger at the work. The name behind acclaimed Downfall explained: "At last, in 2000 - almost 15 years later - I finally got the impression he would talk about it.
"I think Patrick will see the film at some point - he will probably put on a false beard and a wig so no one recognises him, but I would like that, it's the best thing that can happen."
The sinister 18th century murder story has now been made, starring Dustin Hoffman and Alan Rickman, and with a 50 million euro budget is the biggest German film ever.
It was directed by Tom Tykwer, maker of Run Lola Run, another huge name in German film, who hopes it will boost the reputation of German film to where it belongs.
The film will be released on September 14.
