He is planning to develop a full-length feature from Aaron Sims's sci-fi short, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original short centres around RL7, a war machine that malfunctions in the field.
It is brought in and questioned as to why it shut down its fellow robots with an electromagnetic pulse in the midst of battle.
Sims also runs a VFX and design company that has worked on movies including Clash Of The Titans, Big Fish and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.
Davis, who has a 'first look' deal with Fox, covered similar themes of artificial consciousness in 2004's Will Smith-starring Isaac Asimov adaptation I, Robot.
John Norris (The Help) will produce the project with Davis.
Chronicle became a surprise hit with its found-footage story of three teenage boys who acquire superpowers.
