The Tower Heist actor was to host the 2012 Oscars, which was initially going to be produced by Brett Ratner. Ratner was forced to resign as the Oscars producer after using an anti-gay slur during an interview, with Murphy subsequently bowing out as well.
Murphy has now said he still dreams of helming the Oscars ceremony because it is the one career goal he's yet to accomplish.
"It's still something that I would like to do one day, because all the best comics have done it," he told Access Hollywood. "It's one of the few things I haven't done in my 35 years in this business, so I would like to have that be part of my resume as well."
He went on to say: "If they ask me again, maybe I'll do it… one day."
Murphy went on to praise Billy Crystal, who replaced him as the host of this year's Academy Awards.
"I thought Billy did a wonderful job," the comedian declared. "Billy's done it so many times, he can't not do a good job. He's really solid at that."
The actor was recently rumoured to be dating Toni Braxton, but those reports have been officially denied by Braxton's spokesperson.
