The pair signed a deal, along with entertainment guru Simon Fuller, to work with US network HBO in August, and it was thought they were lining up a version of the series for an American audience.
However, recent comments have revealed there may be more to the agreement. On the likelihood of another UK series of the show, Walliams commented: "We don't know yet, actually, because we've had some sort of interest from America. We've got a sort of film development deal out there and also we might do something for TV out there."
Walliams and Lucas are still contracted with the BBC, however, and are reportedly set to deliver a Lou and Andy spin-off and two Christmas specials.
After the deal was made, Fuller told Broadcast magazine: "We are on the brink of confirming something rather special. Think back to Monty Python. Who would have thought that would have been such a big hit in America?"
